“I’m excited about benefits communications because it helps employees become more aware of what’s at their fingertips. Bringing awareness to better self-care is always a great cause, in my book.”
As marketing manager, Vanessa creates, develops, and implements Benz’s overall strategic marketing direction. This includes keeping our website fresh and relevant, reviewing and analyzing performance measures for our marketing and thought leadership campaigns, and overseeing our annual marketing plan, from start to finish.
Vanessa stumbled upon her passion for marketing several years ago while working in the fashion industry. After studying at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, she worked in a number of fashion-related roles, including as a senior stylist for the online subscription and personal shopping service Stitch Fix (a position she still holds) and as a project manager for luxury brand Lan Jaenicke.
While at Lan Jaenicke, she was surprised to discover that her talent for overseeing large-scale marketing plans nearly rivaled her knack for color coordination and fit assessment. With her get-it-done attitude and ability to translate her clients’ needs, she instantly felt at ease in the world of marketing.
Around that time, she also discovered her love of San Francisco. She moved to the city in 2016. She’s been enjoying the region’s many offerings—wine tasting, camping, backpacking—ever since. California’s mild temperatures provide an appealing contrast to the frigid winters of Pittsburgh, Pa., where she was born and raised, and upstate New York, where she attended Syracuse University.
Along with her primary loves of fashion (she has a special weakness for “fun” shoes) and marketing, Vanessa has a wide array of interests, including travel, dogs, food, skincare, and pottery making. And, as a big advocate for women’s health issues, she regularly volunteers at nonprofits dedicated to that cause.
